I work with ideas both personal and professional to bring clarity and precision to the thinking process of myself and others.

Hello! I’m Christophe, Scholar in Residence, Centre for the Study of Platonism, Cambridge University.

I’ve worked with a wide range of people throughout my career. I’ve been a managing editor for Wiley Blackwell’s series on Analytic Philosophy of Religion. I’ve worked with Akhil Gupta (former partner at Blackstone) to help his project to enable others to flourish, and I’ve coached Charles Taliaferro (Philosopher at St. Olaf College and Cambridge University) to help bring new angles to his latest book. I’ve worked with married couples to explore the values which shape their relationship, and I’ve worked with co-authors to publish pieces in academic journals and public philosophy books ranging from Pokemon and Philosophy (Carus Books) to an analytic defense of Theism (The European Journal for Philosophy of Religion).

Coach Christophe is a genius. I have published many books, but the one I am working on now is the most important to me personally. Because of that, I treated myself to four sessions with Christophe and he did not disappoint. Going over the different themes and arguments was like coming upon a well of fresh water. I am citing him in the Acknowledgements with great gratitude!

Let me be a light in the darkness

We all have a hierarchy of values without which it is impossible to choose between multiple options in our path of life. However, very few people spend time encountering their hierarchy of values or asking why they value some things more than others. The process of using philosophy to shine a light on those values and their justifications can be, simply put, liberating. I seek to liberate people from false considerations about what they care about or why they care about what they care about. In this sense, when I coach people I always commit myself to their world view without imposing my own. No one can tell you the reason to live, but a skilled philosopher can enable you to explore the ideas guiding you. Sometimes folks find they have gone astray from their deepest commitments and exposing them to this enables them to choose whether to live in harmony with their own personal ethics, to set the law for themselves, or to adjust their values to harmonize with their current path. That’s what I mean by being a light in the darkness, I explore with you the hidden thoughts which, when brought to the light, can be reviewed by you.

Like Simone De Beauvoir, I believe freedom is a more relevant concern than happiness. I work to maximize that freedom for myself and others.

How to understand me

The simplest way to understand me is to grasp that I am a committed thinker. But there are many ways to think and explore the consequences of our thoughts. In light of that, I spend my days reading, writing (articles, poems, a book, and academic papers), philosophy coaching, consulting, podcasting, preparing for a fundraiser marathon and generally exploring the practical implications of our abstract commitments. This ability to develop connections between the abstract and the practical serves every day folks, philosophers, and leaders who seek clarity of thought and new angles to explore themselves and the world they find themselves in.
